How old does a vehicle need to be to scrap without a title?
Each state sets its own line, and some set none. In Tennessee the car must be 12 years or older and sold only for parts or scrap, and you give a thumbprint along with your ID. North Carolina also uses 12, counted in model years, and the yard checks the car against NCDMV's stolen records first. Texas lets a licensed used auto parts recycler buy a car at least 13 years old that has gone unregistered for at least seven years. Florida needs 10 model years and a value under $1,000, filed on form HSMV 82137. Colorado has no age rule for private sellers. If your car falls short, get a duplicate title first.
