Pulling your own parts

What do I need to bring to a junkyard?

Your own tools, because self-service yards do not lend or rent them. Pack the sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers and pry bar the job needs, plus penetrating oil for rusted bolts. Battery-powered impact guns and saws are fine at many yards. Leave torches, grinders and anything that throws sparks at home, and skip the jack: the cars already sit on stands, and most yards ban jacks outright. Wear closed-toe boots, long pants and clothes you can ruin, and bring gloves and safety glasses. Carry a photo ID, since some yards check age at the gate. If the part has a core charge, bring your old one to swap and skip the deposit.
