Is it better to scrap or sell a car?
Sell it if anyone will pay more than the metal is worth. Scrap value is the floor: the car's weight times the local per-ton rate, usually a few hundred dollars. A car that runs, passes inspection or has a clean title almost always brings more from a private buyer, a dealer trade-in or an online instant offer. Scrap makes sense when repairs cost more than the car is worth, when it has no title and your state lets a yard buy it anyway, or when you need it gone this week. A quick test: get one scrap quote and one instant online offer. If the two land close, take whichever is less work.
